Capable and versatile, with a mixed wheel configuration, straight through seat-post and 170mm of rear travel, this enduro mountain bike is a big hitter in the bike park and a beast out on the trails. For build 1 our choice of components prioritises lightweight with no compromise on strength and reliability. Designed to excel on steep terrain the award-winning A.170 is super-nimble, super-fun going downhill and pedals back up almost as well as our A.150 bike!
Boost jumps, and push it hard in the park, but when you’re up for an adventure the new geometry and the DW6 platform work together to make those big mountain-style missions altogether more rewarding.
Our .1 Fox Factory build comes with a choice of Fox Float X2 or DHX22 and either 170mm or 180mm Fox 38s up front.

We offer 12 sizes for a perfect physical fit and two standard builds. Each Build 1 component was chosen because we believe that it blows everything else out of the water whilst Build 2 is based on parts chosen for their rugged reliability. But there’s no pressure to settle for our favourites, use our standard builds as a great springboard for your own custom enduro mountainbike.

The A170 has mixed/mullet wheels only. We believe this bike performs best as a mullet so that’s what we offer. There is no provision for a 29 rear wheel. Have a look at the A150 if that’s your thing!
Sure you can! There may be some changes to standard geometry caused by the longer fork, drop us a line at sales@athertonbikes.com to discuss.
With its steep seat angle and a supportive DW6 platform for wildly efficient pedalling the A170 climbs far better than you might expect! Perfectly ready for big days in the mountains.
For most A170 riders we recommend a coil shock for the best performance, but air shocks work well too, as with all of our A series builds we respect that you’ll have your styles and preferences and will do all we can to advise according to your typical terrain and riding style.
With its straight seat tube it’s possible to run very long dropper posts on the A170. Even on the smallest frames long posts can be inserted fully.Of course the most suitable size for you might be smaller or larger depending on your measurements. We can spec anything from 125 to 240mm!
Again it’s down to your personal preferences, where you usually ride and the part of your ride that you prioritise. The differences are quite small, a 170mm fork gives a slightly better position for climbing, and 180mm gives the best possible performance for the way back down! A 180 fork will also slightly reduce the bike’s reach (around 5mm).
Build 2 features the highly sought-after Ohlins suspension set-up.
