FAQ's
How can we help you?
What is so good about Atherton Bikes?
We’re putting our hearts and souls into creating and growing our bike company, designing a range of bikes with the same attention to detail we apply to winning a World Cup Series or to designing components for Airbus. Atherton Bikes utilises revolutionary additive manufacturing technologies combined with bespoke carbon fibre tubing to create our ultimate range of bikes.
We started with what we know best, focusing on high-level product designed to be ridden aggressively. In our first race-season on board the bikes we took three World Cup wins. But not everybody is a racer, our dream is to see kids, all mountain explorers, bike park shredders, racers and e-bikers enjoying our bikes.
Whatever your skill-level or preferred riding style we believe that a high quality, correctly fitted bike that delivers a stable and composed ride is key to an awesome riding experience and to your progression as a rider. Our first customers all feel the same way – “I feel more confident, and I ride faster” and “You ride better on this bike.”
Who is behind Atherton Bikes and what do Dan, Gee and Rachel actually do there?
Dan, Gee and Rachel Atherton have dominated the world mountain-biking stage for more than 15 years. During this time, they have won 8 World Championships and 49 World Cups and been instrumental in the development and testing of some of the world’s fastest mountain-bikes including the Commencal Supreme, GT Fury, GT Sanction and Trek Session.
They have brought together a founding team who bring a wealth of engineering experience and knowledge from F1, aerospace and NASA as well as the operational and financial expertise that will drive the business forward. Dan, Gee and Rachel are involved in every decision about our bikes.
How should I interpret the model names?
That’s easy! The letter signifies manufacturing process (so “A” for Additive Manufacturing or S for Subtractive Manufacturing) Then the number refers to mm of rear travel eg A.170 is our additive manufactured bike with 170mm of travel on the rear...
How do I choose between the A or S Range? What’s the difference?
Our A-range: built from carbon and titanium, slightly lighter than the Aluminium range and based around the infinitely adjustable DW6 linkage. With 22 standard sizes, a mm perfect custom-sizing option and the chance to choose your build line by line, the A-range is designed for riders who know exactly what they want and aren’t used to compromise!
The S Range: a more affordable option built from aluminium and based around the world –cup winning DW4 linkage. It offers 12 standard sizes, 3 builds hand-picked by our team and a slight hit on weight is balanced by a rugged and low-maintenance ride. Many of the learnings from our award-winning A-range informed the design brief for this range – we think you’ll love it.
What do you mean by custom fit?
Every Atherton Bike can be perfectly fitted for its rider through the combination of our fit calculator and additive manufacturing. We offer up to 22 standard sizes in our A Range and 12 in our S Range so most riders should find a great fitting size for them. But if you are in between sizes or would like a bike specifically built for your measurements, we can match you to the millimetre (A Range only).
Can I choose different components?
This is only an option on our A Range bikes. We recommend two-three different specifications per model which we ride and love. However, if you’ve always dreamt of a particular build spec, we can make that happen. Purchase the closest standard build spec to secure your build slot, then contact Tom at sales@athertonbikes.com and he can help you change and source your parts.
How long is the wait between order and delivery?
For our A Range: We aim to have you out on the trails on your new Atherton Bike after 18 weeks. Each frame is bespoke and made to order, during this period you will be provided with photo updates so you can see your bike go through the manufacturing process and come to life.
For our S Range: delivery dates will vary by size and by selected build – add to basket to get an accurate date for your choices…
Can I try before I buy?
We currently run a small fleet of demo bikes from Dyfi Bike Park in Mid Wales, and are working to get some S Range Demo's added for you to try too!
